4 March + 10-11 March 2012
This is the event many of the juniors have been holding out for all year: the Heron Junior State Titles.
The upcoming sailors of NSW’s Heron fleet come together for two weekends of competitive sailing - and a lot of fun.
The juniors have the option of sailing in one of two categories: junior-junior (where both the skipper and crew are under 18) or junior-senior (where the junior skipper takes an adult crew with them).
However, not all of the action is on the water. Held over two weekends, this event also includes an overnight camp on the second weekend, held at Narrabeen Lakes Sailing Club.
With adults and kids from all the local clubs ‘sleeping over’ in the one location, it is certainly a highlight for everyone on the social calendar.
The first weekend’s racing will be held at the Dobroyd Aquatic Centre.

Saturday 18 February 2012
While racing Herons is all about crossing the finish line first, there is one event on the calendar that throws all that to the wind (pun intended).
The idea of the Navigatum IT Cup is to utilise all your tactical knowledge (and even a little good-natured trickery) and to work together to get all three boats in your team across the finish line ahead of the group you are competing against.
This year the event will be held on Saturday 11 February at Georges River Sailing Club.
Lake Macquarie Yacht Club
13-22 January 2012
This is the event that our eager experienced and intermediate sailors are preparing for. Every year the National Heron Championships are held in a different state, so it is a once in a six-year event to have the nationals hosted in New South Wales. It is a fantastic opportunity to test out your racing skills on a larger start line and in different conditions to what we often experience on the lake.

Sunday 18 December
Narrabeen Lakes is a very social club, largely due to the fact that a lot of our members are young families. In the lead-up to Christmas we host a champagne breakfast morning where everyone brings along their sausages, bacon and eggs and we spend the morning picnicking in the shade. Santa even makes a visit – coming in via boat. Then we have a fun day of casual racing where teams jump in and out of boats in a bid to see which boat can do the most laps during the day.
Narrabeen Lakes Sailing Club
Sunday 4 December
This is one of our personal favourite days on the sailing calendar. Every year we offer Legacy Club members the opportunity to come down and give sailing a go. There is always a fantastic turnout – even when the weather isn’t kind to us – and we all love to see the wide smiles on the faces of the kids and adults when they are out on the water.
