FAQs

How old do kids have to be to start Learn to Sail?

7+ and be a confident swimmer - they will get wet and inevitably capsize

Do they need any special equipment?

All sailors must wear a lifejacket (we can supply if you need). We suggest a hat, shorts and a rashie. Some kids also like to wear water shoes as there is a bit of grass and weed in the lake.

Do you teach adults to sail?

Not formally but we do have parents and kids join in Development Squad if you need a bit more training in racing. We are a friendly bunch so just ask if you need help.

Can I drop my kid off?

No. In any case we rely on parents to help get the boats ready, put away and generally volunteer.

Do I need my own boat?

Not for Learn to Sail or Intermediate Squad but you will for Development Squad. We have a small number of boats which may be available for lease - contact us to check availability.

What facilities do you have?

Unfortunately our club burnt down in November 2021 and while we are wating for the Council to rebuild, we have storage containers onsite. However what we don’t have in facilities we have in energy and enthusiasm. Public toilets are available at Jamieson Park.

Do you hire out boats to the public?

No, you must be a member and if we have availability, we may be able to lease you a boat.

Are you COVID safe?

Of course! Here’s the details.
