Rebuilding our club after the fire

  • On 27th November 2021, a fire started in the paddle shop situated at the back of the club. The fire spread to the club and destroyed our whole Learn to Sail fleet, our committee boat and most - if not all - the members boat that were stored in the club. We have not been able to access the club ourselves to date due to the Asbestos presence on site but the pictures we have seen are pretty clear and we don’t anticipate to be able to salvage anything from the building.

We have the people and the passion so we're a club! The club will be living under a gazebo for a little while.

  • Just a few examples of the amazing practical help we've received:

    • The Open Skiff association is generously lending us a trailer containing 10 of their boats. Without this we would have had to discontinue our Learn to Sail programs following the destruction of our boats in the fire.

    • Whitworths has donated 8 brand new Optis to rebuild our fleet.

    • Northern Beaches Council coordinated assessments, organised fencing, park toilets and is actively working to find a storage solution on site.

    • The Sail GP team gave us access to their VIP facilities to network, arranged for some autographed goodies to be auctioned later on and some sailors have committed to visit us in due course.

    • The Concord Ryde Sailing Club ran a fundraiser for the NLSC during their Sail GP event on the harbour.

    • The Dobroyd Aquatic Club and the Lane Cove 12ft SSC both spent an evening sharing the lessons of their own facilities rebuild.

    • The Port Hacking Open Sailing Club enabled for one of our club member to take part to the Sail GP youth sailing events aboard their boat.

    • Jason Falinski, MP for Mackellar, paid us a visit on site and his office is helping us navigating grants that maybe available for us.

    • Upper Crust has given us a discount to offer food to our members without the need for a kitchen.

  • Thanks to the Northern Beaches Council, we now have storage containers on site.

We’re very grateful for the time and effort of council and for their constructive and positive approach.

Next step it to work collaboratively with Northern Beaches Council to design and build a fantastic new club.
